26-30 June in Cape Town, South Africa
Aquaculture has been rapidly growing in Africa and increasingly integrated into the continent’s food systems; therefore 2017 was the perfect time for the world aquaculture community to focus on Africa. Under the topic "Sustainable Aquaculture, New Frontiers for Economic Growth, Spotlight on Africa", participants to World Aquaculture 2017 had the opportunity to learn about the latest aquaculture and related industries technologies presented by exhibitors from around the world.
Enjoying a well-organised and implemented conference with a broad range of very interesting discussions, presentations and exhibitions covering all aspects of aquaculture, partner AquaBioTech Group (ABT, Malta) presented the latest progress of VicInAqua in the field. Abstract
The presentation received an almost full audience of broad nationality and background, and clearly a huge amount of interest, in particular in a the concept of a simplified Recirculation Aquaculture System (RAS) that is cost effective and robust, suiting the African rural environment. Our partner also answered questions surrounding the use of fairly complex and costly equipment for the treatment of supply water. A desperate need for both better sanitation, effective systems and something that works and lasts in providing food security was clearly identified.
The Annual International Conference & Exposition of World Aquaculture Society was hosted in 2017 by the Aquaculture Association of Southern Africa Department of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries, Republic of South Africa. Event website
